Size grading
Graded, not scaled
The difference between a range that fits and a range that nearly fits is usually the block the sizes were graded from.
Graded from its own blockA plus-size range is not a straight range scaled up. Scaling is what makes a waistband roll and a fabric go thin over the hip.
Measurements, not labelsSize labels differ by market. The numbers that matter are the waist, hip and inseam a size actually finishes at.
Fit checked on a bodyA graded size set is worn before the run, not measured flat and assumed.
Consistent between ordersThe approved graded set is retained, so a repeat order is compared against it rather than against a memory.

What the fabric is specified in
Four parameters decide whether a legging feels right and stays opaque. They are agreed before sampling so the first sample is judged against a number rather than an impression.
CompositionSpecified per style rather than assumed, so a lighter or a recycled option is a choice rather than a surprise.
Weight in GSMGrams per square metre, chosen for the hand feel and the season the range is sold in.
Stretch and recoveryStretch direction and recovery are specified, because recovery is what stops a legging going baggy at the knee.
Opacity under stretchChecked under stretch against a contrasting background — in the lightest colour in the range, not in black.

Six decisions and the quote is a number
Most quotes stall because one of these is still open. Send all six in one message and the reply carries a unit price, a minimum and a lead time for the quantity you asked about.
Style or reference
A photograph, a sample garment, or a style from the range. A reference piece beats a description.
Fabric
Weight, stretch and hand feel. If you are not sure, ask for the swatch card before choosing.
Colour
A colour reference, a swatch you send, or a stock colour from the range.
Size grade
The size range you sell, and the measurements you need held to.

Dyeing carries the minimum, not cutting, so quantity is quoted per colour rather than per style.

Buyer vocabulary
The words in a brief, and what they measure
Most sourcing disagreements come from a word meaning one thing to a buyer and another to a workshop. These are the terms that come up most, with the measurement behind each one.
Squat-proofOpacity under stretch. It is a measurement, not a fabric type: the same cloth that passes in black can fail in white.
Buttery softA hand feel produced by yarn choice, brushing and the mill finish. Weight alone does not create it — two fabrics at identical GSM can feel completely different.
SeamlessKnitted in the round with no side seam, rather than a cut-and-sew legging with the seam hidden.
High-waistedA waistband deep enough to stay put through a flow. Depth is specified in centimetres, not in words.
Tummy controlA higher front panel and a firmer knit through the midsection, without the rigidity of a corset.
GSMGrams per square metre — how heavy the fabric is. It says nothing about opacity or hand feel on its own.
MOQThe smallest order a mill or a dye house will run. It is counted per colour, not per style, which is why a multi-colour range moves the minimum rather than the price.

What is the minimum order quantity?
We do not publish a minimum we cannot hold to. The floor is set by the fabric and the dye lot, so it moves with the colour and the style you choose. Tell us the style, the fabric and the quantity you have in mind and the minimum comes back with the quote.
Can you match a sample we already have?
Yes. Send the garment and we work from it: fabric weight, stretch, rise, inseam and size grade, followed by a wear-test piece before any production run.
Do you make tops and bras as well as leggings?
Yes. Leggings are the main line, with shorts, skirts, tanks, sports bras and matched sets made from the same fabrics so the range reads as one collection rather than a pile of separates.
How long does production take?
It depends on the fabric, the quantity and the season, so it is given per enquiry rather than published as a flat figure. The decisions listed above are the ones that move it most.
Can we use our own label and packaging?
Yes. Woven labels, printed care labels, hang tags and packaging are all part of private label production, and they are quoted with the garments rather than added afterwards.
How is opacity checked before a run?
The fabric is stretched as it would be worn and checked against a contrasting background in daylight. The check is done in the lightest colour in the range, because the fabric that passes in black is the one that fails in white.
